Twin Fin Surfboards
The setup dominated performance surfing through the late 1970s and early 1980s, redefined what was possible on a wave, and then largely disappeared when the thruster arrived in 1981. Over the last decade, twin fins have come back hard. The shapes being made today are some of the best twins ever built, combining the speed and freedom that made the original twins legendary with modern refinements that let them hold up in waves the old boards couldn't handle.
Doc has been making twin fins since the 1980s to modern performance twins built for surfers who want to push hard on two fins.
The Surf Prescriptions twin fin collection covers the full range of twin fin styles:
Classic retro twins — built around glide, speed, and smooth trim. The Old School Twin is Doc's original retro twin shape, ridden with wide-base keel fins for that authentic 1970s feel. The Twin 82 is a 1980s wing-swallow design with classic boxy rails and vee in the tail.
Modern performance twins — built for surfers who want to push twin fins into bigger, steeper surf. The Twinny Two is the most aggressive shape in the lineup. The Cal Twin was recreated from a customer's early-80s magic board and refined for modern dimensions. The Wonder Twin features a round wing pin tail with channels for surfers who want twin fin freedom plus thruster-style bite.
Hybrid and pin-tail twins — built for versatility. The Tur-Twin Pin features a 4-channel bottom and round pin tail, making it one of the most versatile twins in the lineup. The Tur-Fish is a progressive shape that combines retro fish glide with modern turning ability.
Mid-length twins — built for surfers who want twin fin feel with longer rails. The Slot Machine is a single-slot-channel twin that scales from shortboard to full mid-length. The Twin Royale is the most stylish mid-length twin Doc has ever shaped — a deluxe wide-template cruiser with optional wood-grained keel fins.
The right twin depends on what kind of surfing you want to do. If you want the classic retro feel, looser, smoother, drawn-out turns, go with a keel-style shape like the Old School Twin or Twin 82, paired with wide-base keel fins like the Triple T Keel Twins. If you want modern performance, pushing hard in steeper waves, vertical maneuvers, look at the Twinny Two, Cal Twin, or Wonder Twin, paired with upright fins like the Tallboy Twin Fins. If you want versatility, the Tur-Twin Pin and Tur-Fish handle a wider range of conditions than most twins. And if you're exploring mid-lengths, the Slot Machine and Twin Royale are where to start.
